Harris Poll: Barack Obama 50%, Ron Paul 50%

According to a newly released survey from Harris Interactive, 2012 Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul splits the vote in half versus President Obama, doing better than a majority of the other Republican contenders. The poll gives Paul 50 percent of the vote versus the president in a head to head match up.

“Right now, the push for true leadership is gaining momentum,” said Ron Paul 2012 Campaign Manager, John Tate. “In poll after poll, Americans are eager for real change, they are sick of the status quo, and looking for a leader who stands for constitutionally limited government and individual liberty. Ron Paul is that leader.”

Just last week, a Rasmussen survey showed Paul only 4 points behind Obama in a match between the two.  In a similar head to head survey from last year done by Rasmussen, Paul actually drew a statistical dead heat with the president. And earlier this year in a survey by CNN he did the best out of the other Republicans put up against Obama in a head to head poll.

Harris Poll: If Ron Paul Won GOP Nomination, He Would Split Vote With Obama

Rep. Ron Paul (R-Tex.), an official candidate for the Republican presidential nomination, has performed well in several polls throughout his campaign. In may, Paul took second place in a CNN/WMUR poll of likely Republican voters. In June, Paul won a Republican Leadership Conference straw poll. At the beginning of July, Paul came in first in a Texas GOP poll, conducted by the Azimuth Research Group.

Perhaps the best indication of Paul’s candidacy so far is a Harris poll released today by Harris Interactive. According to the Harris poll, Obama and Paul would split the vote right down the middle if they were to run against each other in 2012.

Between July 11th and 18th, 2011, nearly 2200 adults were surveyed online by Harris Interactive. According to the Harris poll, 50 percent of those surveyed would vote for Paul if he were matched up against Obama and 50 percent would vote for the President.

President Obama Would Lose if Mitt Romney or Rudy Giuliani Was the Nominee

Harris Polls

Against President Obama

Looking ahead to November, it seems there are three possible candidates who could give President Obama a difficult time. President Obama would lose his re-election if Rudy Giuliani (53% to 47%) or Mitt Romney (51% to 49%) was the Republican nominee. Each candidate would receive 50% of the vote if the President was running against Ron Paul. Right now, President Obama would win re-election against the 10 other candidates presented.
